Water and Environmental Science Program (Master of Engineering)
This program aims to develop water engineers and researchers with the skills to solve practical water and environmental problems. This program is suitable for graduates who pursue a career in the projects of water treatment and water environment management.

Special note: The name of the program will change to "Water and Environmental Science Program" in the Graduate School of Engineering from April 2022.
Water and Environmental Science Program (Ph.D. Program)
This program aims to develop professionals with the skills to establish innovative approaches and technologies for addressing water and environmental problems.
Start from April or October for 3 years
5 students/year
Course Features
Multicultural environment: Japanese students (20~30%) and non-Japanese students (70~80%) in M.Eng.
Language: All lectures are conducted in English. Non-Japanese students will take classes of Japanese language.
Practical skills: Laboratory exercises particularly focus on pilot-scale membrane bioreactor (MBR) and reverse osmosis (RO) plants for waste water treatment, computer simulation systems for water environment, and research ships for monitoring coastal area.
Industry experience: Internship will be arranged as part of the course work in collaboration with companies in Japan and overseas.
Job opportunities: SIPWEE (Society of International Promotion for Water Environmental Engineering) supports students to find employment opportunities in Japan.
Scholarships for Master students
Nagasaki University’s scholarship for students from ASEAN and Africa (New from April 2022 Enrollment), 80,000 yen/month for 1 year (114 yen = $1 (USD), 20 persons/year, Competitive scholarship (application)
JASSO scholarship, 48,000 yen/month for 1 year (or 6 months), Language requirement (IELTS = 5.5 or higher), No selection criteria
MEXT scholarship [University’s recommendation – Special Program/Water & Environmental Engineering], 144,000 yen/month for 2 years + travel expenditure + enrolment and tuition fee waivers, 3 persons/year (next application is open in December 2022), Language requirement (IELTS = 5.5 or higher), GPA = 2.3 out of 3.0 (MEXT grading), Competitive scholarship (application & interview)
Special notes: For #1 & #2, Guaranteed enrollment fee waiver (2-3 persons/each semester), Tuition fee waivers (top 50% in exam OR top 50% in GPA)

Graduate School of Engineering, scholarship 1,800,000 yen/year for 3 years + research grant 300,000 yen/year for 3 years (compulsory to have overseas study in Europe/US/Australia), 6 persons/year/Engineering, Competitive scholarship (application)
MEXT scholarship [University’s recommendation], 144,000 yen/month for 3 years + travel expenditure + enrolment and tuition fee waivers, 1-2 persons/year/university (next application is open in December 2022), Language requirement (IELTS = 5.5 or higher), GPA = 2.3 out of 3.0 (MEXT grading), Competitive scholarship (application & interview)
